Two Pakistani players have earned nominations for the prestigious Player of the Month award for August

These nominations come on the heels of a series of fiercely contested white-ball matches that unfolded in August, featuring candidates from five different nations. Voting is now underway among a panel of experts and cricket enthusiasts worldwide.

As Pakistan intensifies its preparations for the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup in India, their skipper, Babar Azam, delivered an exceptional performance with the bat in August. He amassed crucial runs, playing a pivotal role in his team’s comprehensive series victory over Afghanistan. Additionally, he posted a remarkable century in Pakistan’s opening Asia Cup fixture. At the other end of the pitch, Shadab Khan showcased his prowess, particularly with the ball, during the same fixtures. Completing the lineup of nominees is West Indies’ T20 sensation, Nicholas Pooran, who was a driving force behind his team’s T20I series triumph against India on home soil.

Here are the ICC Men’s Player of the Month Nominees for August:

Babar Azam (PAK): Babar, who has already earned various personal accolades, including the Sir Garfield Sobers Trophy for ICC Men’s Cricketer of the Year, had an outstanding month. He scored 53 and 60 in the ODI series against Afghanistan, contributing to a 3-0 victory. In the Asia Cup opener, he scored a massive 151, leading Pakistan to a resounding win over Nepal.
Shadab Khan (PAK): Shadab Khan, nominated for the first time in the Player of the Month awards, made significant contributions with both bat and ball in August. His performance against Afghanistan included a crucial three-wicket haul in the final ODI, securing a whitewash. In the Asia Cup, he shone with a spell of four for 27 in Pakistan’s victory against Nepal.
Nicholas Pooran (WI): Nicholas Pooran played a pivotal role in the West Indies’ T20I series victory over India, amassing 176 runs in five outings. His performances included two scores above 40 and a match-winning 67 off 40 balls in the second match in Guyana. Pooran was named Player of the Series for his outstanding contributions.
